Zoo to You!

The Hamilton Family Children’s Zoo and Faris Family Education Center, also known as KidZooU, was a recent transformation at the historic Philadelphia Zoo – America’s first zoo (opened July 1, 1874).  The project involved the renovation of the former Pachyderm House into a new education center and children’s zoo with exhibit spaces, teaching collections, workshop and program rooms.  The space caters to children ages two to thirteen.

Metropolitan Acoustics was the acoustical consultant for the project, working alongside SMP Architects, who headed the design.  Our scope involved evaluation of the existing interior room acoustics and design of acoustical treatments, and analysis of the mechanical system noise and vibration along with recommendations to meet design goals.    The project was recently highlighted in Context – the journal of AIA Philadelphia. Click here to read the article.
