A Modernist Makeover- Hill College House at U Penn is Transformed

Over the last couple years we have been involved in a massive renovation project at Hill House at the University of Pennsylvania with Mills + Schnoering Architects. It is the only building in Philadelphia designed by Eero Saarinen, the Finnish-American architect famous for designing the iconic Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri. The interior of the building has been revitalized without losing any of its original character. The rooms, amenities, mechanical systems, and shared spaces have undergone transformations that have improved the quality of life for the residents and enhanced the social element which has always been such a key part of life in this particular residence hall. We provided consultation on acoustics and noise control throughout much of this building with a focus on the lounge areas and public gathering spaces. Our design recommendations were followed very closely and the building renovation is a great success.
