The Drake Tower

The Drake Tower
Philadelphia, PA
Architect: VLBJR Architects

The 32-story Drake Tower was originally constructed in 1929 as a luxury hotel. When a multi-million dollar renovation was undertaken in 1998 to convert the building into luxury apartments, Metropolitan Acoustics assisted the architect in the acoustical design.

We provided recommendations for acoustical isolation between various spaces throughout the building. Our analysis included walls and floor/ceiling assemblies separating apartments from the exercise room, mechanical spaces, elevators, trash compactor, rooftop equipment, a theater space on the 1st Floor and other adjacent apartments. Our recommendations for isolation included double stud walls, resilient underlayments, and floating slabs and isolation ceilings in critical locations.

Additionally, we provided noise control and vibration isolation recommendations for mechanical equipment including a cooling tower, heat exchanger and pumps located on the roof as well as the individual apartment heat pumps.
