The 2014 AIA Awards for Design Excellence ceremony was recently held at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia. The who’s who in the world of Philadelphia Architecture were there for an evening of socializing and award announcements.
Metropolitan Acoustics is proud to say we were on six winning teams! The award recognizes and promotes the value of architects and building design professionals with their high standards of design, sustainability and building efficiency. Congratulations to all winners – and thank you to all who included us on your teams.
Agnes Irwin School Athletic Center and Student Life Center
This private K-12 school for girls built an addition which included a new Athletic Center and Student Life Center. Metropolitan Acoustics designed recommendations for the interior room acoustics, interior isolation, and mechanical system noise control. We also designed the audio visual system for the new addition. The project is expected to achieve LEED certification.
Courtyard Philadelphia South at the Navy Yard
This new 5-story Marriott Hotel provides 172 guest rooms at the bustling Navy Yard in South Philadelphia. Metropolitan Acoustics provided internal sound isolation for the guest and meeting rooms in conformance to Marriott corporate standards.
The Navy Yard is a vibrant mixed-use waterfront urban development project. Originally one of the nations’s oldest shipyards, it is now a thriving 1,200 acre business campus with 143 companies occupying more than 6.5 million square feet of office, industrial/manufacturing, and research and development space.
Harvard University Stone Hall, Quincy House
Old Quincy House residential building on Harvard’s campus was getting renovated – complete with a new name – Stone Hall! Metropolitan Acoustics provided sound transmission analysis and recommendations throughout the building – including between the many music practice rooms and resident suites.
The awards keep coming for this affordable mixed-use development project located close to the Temple University SEPTA station. Metropolitan Acoustics provided consultation to ensure the exterior building shell met HUD requirements for sound transmission into the building from the frequent train activity. In addition to the AIA award, it has also received LEED Platinum certification (the nation’s first for neighborhood development) and The Urban Land Institute (ULI Philadelphia) Award for Excellence as being “truly exemplary”.
El Corazón Cultural Center
This new community center at Taller Puertorriqueño provides a mixed-use space to gather and learn in the heart of Latino Philadelphia. Metropolitan Acoustics provided recommendations for the interior finishes to achieve appropriate room acoustics and mechanical system noise and vibration control analysis for the new divisible Theater, plus other spaces in the facility.
Metropolitan Acoustics provided both the Acoustical and A/V design consultation services on the renovation of this elegant ballroom located in one of Philadelphia’s historic landmark institutions on South Broad Street.
This beautiful, historic and wonderful space was also the recipient of the “grand Jury” award from the 21st annual Preservation Alliance Achievement Awards in June 2013.
