Context magazine recently featured the Perelman Auditorium, a project of ours in their Design Profiles. The Perelman Auditorium is owned by the Philadelphia Museum of Art (PMA) and is located across the Parkway, adjacent to the museum in the former Fidelity Mutual Life Insurance building. This project transformed the center section of the building into the main Auditorium for PMA, creating a prominent new room in the city for symposiums, lectures, and special events by adding a stage, tiered seating, and opened previously closed windows.
Metropolitan Acoustics was chosen as the acoustical consultant for the transformation of the Perelman Auditorium. We modeled this space, predicting the room acoustics with various room finishes and provided recommendations for interior finishes so that the acoustical goals were met. We also provided recommendations for the doors and walls around the Auditorium so that appropriate isolation is achieved. Where necessary, we design solutions for noise and vibration control for the mechanical systems. Another important portion of the work we did on this project was designing the A/V system for the Auditorium.
