Metropolitan Acoustics was part of three teams that received honors at the 2019 AIA Philadelphia Design Awards recently held on December 5, 2019, at The Fillmore. This annual celebration brings together the best of Philadelphia architecture with recognition for their design work.
- University of Pennsylvania – Lauder College House (formerly New College House)
- University of Pennsylvania – Richards Medical Research Laboratories Building
- Saint Joseph’s University – Arrupe Hall
Bohlin Cywinski Jackson was the architect for the University of Pennsylvania’s Lauder College House project. Opened in 2016, the 198,000 SF dorm offers suite-style rooms with building amenities to about 350 students. Our services included interior room acoustics, acoustical isolation and background sound levels. Spaces included the resident rooms, common areas, music practice rooms, seminar rooms, lounges, and recreational rooms.
The Richards Medical Research Laboratories Building at the University of Pennsylvania was designed by architect Louis Kahn, completed in 1960, and is a National Historic Landmark in American Architecture. Spanning 10 floors on over 100,000 SF, Atkin Olshin Schade was the design team leader for the renovation which was completed in phases to create a state-of-the-art medical research facility. Spaces were redefined to meet the needs of each user while following design and preservation guidelines.
Metropolitan Acoustics provided both acoustical and audio-visual consultation for this project. Services included mechanical system noise/vibration control recommendations for the new HVAC system, and A/V system design for several classrooms and seminar rooms.
Saint Joseph’s University’s Arrupe Hall, designed by Moto Designshop, is a residential building for the Jesuit priests who work at the University and the Jesuit high school in Philadelphia. The new building will house 15 residents and include common living areas and a chapel. We provided acoustical designs for the bedrooms, chapel, dining room, living room, library, and office spaces.
Congratulations to all the winners!
