University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine at One uCity Square
Philadelphia, PA

One uCity Square is a dynamic, mixed-use community that seamlessly blends office, lab, and retail spaces. The property features private outdoor terraces, ample onsite parking, and direct access to The Square, which hosts a range of community-driven programming such as yoga, movies, concerts, and more. Located in Philadelphia’s vibrant University City neighborhood, the building offers 389,000 square feet of space across 13 floors.

Half of the second floor houses a state-of-the-art animal research facility dedicated to the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine and the School of Engineering and Applied Science. This specialized space includes animal holding rooms, cage wash areas, private and open labs, common areas, private offices, and a dedicated mechanical room. Given the sensitive nature of the environment, the acoustic design of these labs must prioritize the comfort of both personnel and animals, addressing unique challenges related to sound isolation, room acoustics, and mechanical/electrical/plumbing system noise and vibration control. Metropolitan Acoustics was engaged to conduct comprehensive acoustic analysis to ensure optimal performance and compliance throughout the facility. The result is a lab spaces exceptionally suited to both humans and animals.
